blitz fanatic tips and games and gripes and such Hey, here is a biggy. Okay so you have your affinities set to what chips you are playing on and processes cranked up to high. But wait, are you playing on the right browser?!? Well here is a tip for the fanatic ...
First you are using Timeseal, right? But back to browsers, a little known secret: "AOL Internet Browser" (which is not meaning to be on AOL, this is a seperate puppie. Not what you get when you sign on AOL, rather the one that tells you a websites registry, owner name, and whose their first born child ... that I nickname The Power Browser :) WELL it is FASTER than Firefox on transmitting moves.
Q: Has anyone researched if Firefox or IE7 is faster>? IE 6? If you can be trusted(!) not to give me disinformation (after all I gave you a goodie here!) , I'd surely like to know without doing the work :)

PS// Just for the record, it dont matter much what you use here at GK blitz for 10 minute play. As long as a browser TRANSMITS, thats generally good enough. I'm talking for the 0+2 or 1 to 2 minute games etc, where browser may count....

ADDITIONAL BLITZ TOPIC~~! ... WHAT 3 IMPROVEMENTs would you most like to see made first for the GK "Brain Blitz" area, currently @ "BETA" status... ?
1) Addition of a game score-sheet, that can be copied and pasted to elsewhere to save it ... or be directly movable to someplace like Personal Annotations section,
or games History, or at least Messages & e-mail ... where it can be saved and worked on.
2) Important one: Adjusting the system so that it will allow that a Draw is made when both sides lack Mating Material. And an automatic draw if a player runs out of time but his opponent lacks Mating Material. These to be, rather than the present case where the game is required to play out until someone runs out of time and their opponent is declared winner, even lacking Mating Material.

3) Ability to Choose an Opponent if they agree to play, and rematch ability.
OF these, the first two are really much more important to me, and the third is just a bonus.
Some other things that might be nice, or perhaps more important to someone else?!
* Fixing the glitch in allowing 0-0 and 0-0-0, even if a lot of moves have been played after it first becomes possible. As it is now, sometimes it will refuse to permit castling after too many moves are made since the time it becomes first possible to do it.

* Fixing the glitch that does not allow someone to make a move that will REPEAT the Position for a third time. And to have the system ask at that point if either player wants to claim a draw based on 3 Time Repetition of Position. [Actually, to me, I rather like the strategy that the glitch creates however~! :) ]

* Adding a choice of several more Time Controls.

* Ability to e-mail the games to self.

* Offering of multiple challenges ... to several players at once, and start the game with the first to accept.
Any thoughts, PLease !!?

Quick thought 1. Players on the ignore list cannot be paired. That's

2. Rematch ability.

3. Disallowing multiple resigns in a minute's time to prevent players only playing with White (or Black).

Well... 1.Move list...
2.Maybe a rating list specific to Blitz. Quite a few "blitz specialists" have a rating of 1200 (still on their provisional rating), having played a trivial number of "long" games (if any at all) and clearly live on GK solely for the blitz play. They might like to have a proper "blitz" rating. Just by the way: it is possible such a system will have a tendency to weed out the offensively rude snurges that appear from time to time...
3.I suspect one of the reasons Blitz remains in its unfinished state is that it's hard to think of extra bells and whistles that might be offered to premium subscribers over the non-payers (such as myself). The move list might be one , though I'd prefer it were something else! Perhaps some of the ideas that Craig was suggesting such as choice of opponent (I'm prepared to take who comes); or
4.Blitz tournaments, leagues, clubs, which might be the same or different from the existing ones. Non-payers could be as restricted in their conditions of entry to these things as in the other areas.

yeah Fixing the blitz and having a seperate blitz rating would be awesome!

YES ... !! Hi 12uy_10p3z

Definitely agree with THAT.
IF GK did decide to RATE it; I would CERTAINLY want a Separate rating for BLITZ/ 10 minute type games ... It would hurt too much to watch four years of work on a Corr.-Chess rating plummet from one bad afternoon on the blitz board~! Besides making a mixed rating of the two would probably just make both completely inaccurate.
One thing they have instituted now at another site I play is having multiple ratings per player. A separate one for STANDARD (15 Min. or more), BLITZ (over 2 minutes), and Lightning/aka Bullet (2 minutes or less). [They cant seem to decide what to call that last category] It really makes it nice for selecting Challenges, since all three rating are now posted on their challenge menu to use when making one.

better blitz sites... while this blitz site is ok,it is no match for 2 blitz pay sites that I belong to.ICC and a russian site called...Instantchess.Try either one if you care to play on the best! All time controls are adjustable(from one minute to say 30 minutes),players can be preselected in many cases and the boards on ICC are beautiful.Instantchess has alot of what i call exotic players, and many Russian players who were "born"strong players!I know, because my blitz rating hovers around 2230 and I find both sites much more challenging than the GameKnot blitz site which has now been under construction for how many years now???
